“Early American Imprint, very rare antique 1744 colonial American imprint, “An Abstract of the Remarkable Passages in the Life of a Private Gentleman. In Three parts. Relating to Trouble of Mind, some violent Temptations, and a Recovery: In order to awaken the Presumptuous, convince the Sceptic, and encourage the Despondent. With Reflections Thereon.”

Notes by Marc White: In doing some research I discovered this may have originally been printed in London in 1715, in fact that entire book can be found online already with Google Books, it shows a red stamp that says British Museum 1985. It can be purchased as a reprint on Amazon. I would say, the copy we have printed in Boston 1744 is in fact very rare, the seller told me himself, “anything printed in America in the 1600s usually goes to an institution.” We are definitely searching for religious material from that century printed in the colonies, and are eager to purchase any we may come across.

“The book is overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. It has recently been rebacked with a new leather spine and replaced endpapers. The leather from the rebacking continues on to the front cover to repair a section of missing leather. The text of the book is complete and the binding is good and strong. The covers have some moderate scuffing and wear with some corner wear and edge wear. The interior is toned from age with some mild foxing and some occasional light & minor dampstaining. Along with that, there may be the very occasional page with some kind of other imperfection, such as a creased page corner, minor wrinkle, tiny chip or tear, minor stain or marking, etc. Generally though, it’s a nice copy. The book is a small volume; it measures approximately 5 1/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches and is 192 pages long. Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition.
